Who welcomes you

When you arrive there’s no hostess and no numbered trail. There’s Maurizio, Lorena, Silvana, Leonardo or Gaetano: there are six of us at the winery, five of the same family plus Luca, our young winemaker, and the person showing you around is the same one who was pruning those vines in January.

That’s why we receive visitors by reservation only. It’s not a formality: if we know you’re coming, we really do stop what we’re doing.

A four-hundred-year-old farmhouse

Cascina Sòt is the name of the old Langhe farmhouse which, according to some sources, dates back more than four hundred years. We restored it keeping what was there: the brick vaults, the stone walls, the beams. The tasting room is built down there, and from the windows you see the vines.

The family has been here since 1975, when Maria and Giuseppe bought the property after years of working it as sharecroppers. Barolo, though, we have only bottled since 2008: Maurizio is the first generation to do it.

What you see in the vineyard

We start from the vineyards closest to the house, inside the Bricco San Pietro cru. We show you the differences between the vineyards and the way each is worked, and how we look after the vines and the soil: grass between the rows, no herbicides, certified integrated production.

What you see in the cellar

Then we go down into the cellar and see every step of the winemaking. This is where the wines take shape, build structure, mature and age: the oak fermentation vats, the punch-downs done by arm, the large Slavonian casks, the tonneaux and the barriques.

If you come at harvest time, you see it as it happens: the crates arriving from the vineyard, the destemmer turning, the smell that fills those days and no other moment of the year.

The cellar aisle, between wooden vats and steel tanks
The winemaking cellar: wood on one side, steel on the other.
Tonneaux and barriques on their racks under the beams
The wood where the Barolos spend their years.
Lorena in the vineyard with a bottle
You’re welcomed by the family, not a guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do just the tasting, without the tour?
Yes: two of the four options are tasting only and last about an hour. But if it’s your first visit, the walk through the vineyard and the cellar is the part you’ll remember.
Do I need to book the visit?
Yes. We’re a family winery with no dedicated hospitality staff: if you book, you’ll find us free and ready for you.
When is the best time to come?
Every season shows you something different. In September and October the harvest is under way, in winter the cellar is quiet and the tasting is at its best, in spring the vines wake up again.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, children are welcome: there’s space outside and it’s not a formal setting.
Is it easy to reach by car?
Yes. We’re 20 minutes from Alba, 6 from Barolo and 4 from Monforte d’Alba. The last stretch is a country road, but it takes you right to the winery, and there’s plenty of parking.
Can I buy the wines at the winery?
Of course. And if you’d rather have the bottles delivered, we ship to Italy, Europe and the United States.

We look forward to seeing you
